As the children enter the first cycle of learning between 3 to 6 years, they will embark on a journey of discovery and growth. 

In the absorbent mind phase children will absorb knowledge and experiences like a sponge. This period is crucial for developing their sense of self, independence, and a love of learning. The learning environment sparks curiosity and investigation and invites children to explore concepts relating to Montessori. These include practical life, sensorial, mathematics and cultural experiences.

As children enter this phase educators prepare the environment to tailor for the children's interests and development needs while exploring various Montessori resources and activities. 

It is through the work cycle that children are supported to choose activities independently and work and move freely throughout the learning environment to access and engage in learning. The teacher's support is one that observes the child and provides guidance when needed, respecting the child's independence. Children thrive during this time through hands-on experiences, self-directed learning and uninterrupted time to discover.
